The Alberta government requires all new drivers to complete a driver education program. The Advance Driving Course is tailored for Class 5 (non-GDL) drivers belonging to the following categories:

  • Driver has Class 5 (non-GLD) license but does not have much driving experience in Alberta.
  • Drivers looking for an insurance reduction
  • International experienced drivers but new Edmonton driving conditions.
  • Received their Class 5 (non-GLD) license as part of the license exchange program.

The Advance Driving Course is provided by various private driving schools in Edmonton and is designed to help drivers improve their driving skills, understand traffic laws and regulations, and reduce the risk of accidents on the road.

Theory and classroom instruction:

The course covers topics such as traffic laws, safe driving practices, road signs, and road rules. The instructor will provide interactive lessons, videos, and presentations to help drivers understand the information.

In-car training:

The course offers 6 hours of road training to help drivers get hands-on experience behind the wheel, practicing driving skills and navigating different road conditions. The instructor will provide feedback and guidance on their driving performance.

Emergency response training:

Drivers will learn how to respond to emergency situations on the road, such as a collision or a blown tire.

Advance driving course in Alberta aims to provide new drivers with the knowledge and skills they need to become safe and confident drivers on the road. Students will receive a course completion certificate after the successful completion of the course, which will give them up to 20% discount on insurance.
